If everyone wants to move to the city, what happens to the countryside? In spite of, or perhaps because of the continuing global urbanisation, the discussion about life in the countryside is gaining in importance. While politics in Germany have made ‘the equality of living conditions’ a federal objective, innovative approaches to solutions for the future viability of rural regions are often developed locally. Many rural residents are productively engaged in their local communities and would like to be actively involved in designing their surroundings. We should be able to live where we feel comfortable – and feel comfortable where we live. Architecture can help with this.
