Tower House
Tower House
The adaptation and expansion of existing buildings across generations is a key theme in rural areas. A modern interpretation of this concept is the Tower House in the North Hessian town of Bromskirchen. Faced with limited space in their apartment within a 1960s family home, a young family chose to build an extension that balanced their need for independence with maintaining a strong connection to the older generation. The result is a distinctive standalone structure connected to the parents’ house via a bridge. To minimize land use, the extension was designed with an exceptionally small footprint of just 20 square meters. The vertical layout efficiently stacks four functional rooms, alternating between introverted and extroverted spaces. The design includes a bedroom in the basement, a kitchen on the ground floor, a reading room in the mezzanine, and an attic bathroom with a roof terrace that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
